I recently attended the 2014 Yale Technology summit with Glenn Newman, our Lead Desktop Support Technician. The keynote address was from the founders of Twitch, Justin Kan and Emmett Shear. Twitch is the world’s leading video-game streaming platform and a community for gamers. Justin and Emmett recently sold it to Amazon for $970 million dollars.
While Glenn wanted to see the creators of one of his favorite websites, I was primarily interested in learning more about their story of entrepreneurship. I found it very energizing to hear not just about their recent success, but also about the number of non-starting projects that led to it. We owners of small business are a determined and competitive bunch and minor setbacks can often feel like complete failures. It’s comforting to think that on the path from $0 to $970 million dollars, Justin and Emmett had their share of missteps too.
If you want to hear more about their start-up success, you can watch the full video here:
By the way, you can see Glenn’s excellent question (and me chewing gum) at 1:03:20.
