It Was 20 Years Ago Today…

Twenty years ago today, Microsoft launched the Windows 95 operating systems. In celebration of this milestone, we’re taking a nostalgic look back at life on August 24th, 1995.

The number one song was Waterfalls by TLC. Please note that at the time, the CGI in this video was very impressive:

The number one movie at the box office was Mortal Combat. Despite being based on a video game, the computer graphics in the movie were decidedly unimpressive at the time.

Windows 95 famously launched with a TV commercial featuring “Start Me Up” by the Rolling Stones. Because apparently nothing says “95” like the #2 song from ’81.

If you were lucky enough to be at the actual launch event, you would have witnessed Bill Gates being introduced by Jay Leno.

Does any of this make us miss Windows 95? Not really. We’ll stick with Windows 10, thank you very much.
